January 24 marked the 134th anniversary of the founding in Kharkov of a unique school for blind and visually impaired
children, which now bears the name of V.G. Korolenko. January 20,
1887, a school for blind children opened in Kharkov under the
patronage of Empress Maria Feodorovna and the Board of Trustees.
On January 24, 1922, the school was named after V.G. Korolenko, a
humanist writer. The school was subsequently reorganized into a
boarding school. Now it is the communal institution “Kharkiv
Special School named after V. Korolenko” of the Kharkiv Regional
Council, which has unique opportunities for teaching children
with severe visual impairments. In the course of communication
between representatives of the BMI department, the leadership and
teachers of the school, the need for special equipment was
identified in order to improve the educational process and expand
the students’ capabilities in the perception of what was stated.
The most prepared students of the Korolenko school subsequently
become students, including KNURE. Congratulations to our
colleagues on a solid anniversary of the school!
We wish great
success in work, inspiration and good health to students and
their pupils!
