The science as a way of life

The beginning of my future professional career.

(El Moustakime Younes)

I have always been drawn to traveling and visiting new countries. As I got older, I had a desire to go overseas and visit more places, to meet new people, to discover traditions, and customs. And when I graduated from school, I knew it was the time to choose a future specialty, I wanted to go to an unfamiliar country and live according to other people’s rules and laws, or, as they say now, to get out of the comfort zone or seeking discomfort. I wanted to feel independent and get a certain life experience. Probably the best period for such an adventure is when being an university student ; and to all of the above, new knowledge, a new educational system and teachers with completely different approaches to the study of disciplines will be added.

Why exactly Ukraine?

when you’re planning to build your future life in a new country with new linguistic and cultural realities,  it is important to foresee and expect all the nuances. Of course, First and foremost I consulted with my parents. Living and studying abroad is a certain material cost, and we understood that these costs will fall primarily on the shoulders of the family, on the shoulders of my father. Therefore, the material issue – the cost of education and the average living wage in the country of my future education – was of great importance. I looked through a lot of websites of various universities in different countries, studied all the pros and cons. One of the countries that came to my attention was Ukraine. Why? I found information that, firstly, there is a relatively cheap cost of living and education in Ukraine, and secondly, every year Ukrainian universities more and more accept students from other countries for studying, thirdly, the level of education in Ukrainian universities are quite high, and the educational system of Ukraine provides a high quality of knowledge. My family and I were interested in the possibility of continuing my studies in Ukraine. The choice was made! Ukraine!

Now the remaining question  is -Kiev, Kharkov, Lvov, Odessa?

Why Kharkov?

Here I didn’t even have to think long. Of course – Kharkov! Firstly, Kharkov is a city of students, Kharkov is the scientific capital of Ukraine. Every year a lot of students come to Kharkov from all over the world. Students from 116 countries of the world study at more than 30 universities in Kharkov!

And then there was the question of choosing a university. And this was, perhaps, the most difficult one . Because I wanted to choose a university where I could get a profession that would be in demand and necessary in the future in my country – Morocco. I understood that getting a good high-paying job is difficult not only in Morocco, so my future profession should be promising, necessary and a priority in my country.

Why Kharkov National University of Radio Electronics?

I have always been interested in the IT field . Modern direction, high demand for specialists. But I was also interested in medicine. Therefore, I needed to choose such a university and such a specialty, where I could combine both of these areas of study – IT and medicine. Such university turned out to be KNURE – Kharkov National University of Radio Electronics. I got acquainted with the KNURE website, I chose a faculty and a direction of study that  perfectly matched my interests. Faculty of ELBI, specialty of BioMedical Engineering. I was attracted by the reviews about the university, faculty, specialty, and my family was quite satisfied with the cost of education. But, in order to study in the chosen specialty in the language of the country that I chose , I had to go through pre-university training and learn the language. And first, I studied for a year at the Faculty of Teaching Foreign Citizens – I learned the language, repeated and strengthened my knowledge in basic subjects: mathematics, physics, computer science, biology and chemistry.

What can I tell now about my university – about KNURE?

Kharkov National University of Radio Electronics is one of the best universities in Ukraine, for many years it has been accepting foreign students to pursue their studies . Now about a thousand foreigners studying at KNURE. Our university is very beautiful. This year celebrated its 90th anniversary .

In KNURE students study in Ukrainian and Russian. And also in English in the specialties: computer engineering, cybersecurity, biomedical engineering and economics.

Students have the opportunity to study under the double degree program of the Erasmus + program at institutions in various European countries, attend various international training courses and do internships at various IT academies and international companies. Students take part in scientific events, conferences and exhibitions. The learning process is well organized at the university. All teachers are highly qualified specialists in their field. All lectures are informative and interesting. Teachers always recommend additional materials, including in electronic form. All materials are in the library of KNURE. The KNURE library is very interesting. There are always the latest materials on all issues of interest to students and teachers. I spend a lot of time in the reading hall of our university. There is a unique atmosphere – the atmosphere of science, knowledge, silence, which motivates to learn.

As part of the course “Introduction to the specialty BMI” foreign students of the department “Biomedical Engineering” visited the laboratory “Synevo”, where they were introduced to the work of biochemical analytical equipment from the world’s best manufacturers, such as Roche Diagnostics (Switzerland), Sysmex (Japan), Bio- Rad (USA), Siemens Healthcare Diagnostics (USA), etc.

As part of the study of  “General anatomy, physiology and pathology” for a more visual and informative study of human anatomy, students visited the anatomical museum of  Kharkov National Medical University.

For an in-depth study of specialized disciplines, our senior colleagues actively visit the Department of Nuclear Medicine and Radiation Therapy of the Institute of Medical Radiology named after V.I. S.P. Grigoriev National Academy of Medical Sciences of Ukraine. The university conducts classes with the participation of specialists from other universities and research centers – partners of KNURE.

Experienced teachers of the departments organized various scientific circles, which all of us, students, attend with great pleasure and interest. We conduct our own research, take part in student scientific forums and conferences throughout Ukraine, present our own developments, projects, and make scientific reports.

Every year, our university hosts the International Youth Forum “Radio Electronics and Youth in the 21st Century”, in which I always take part, under the guidance of experienced scientific leaders – teachers of the BMI department – I write articles and abstracts, make reports, make presentations. This year ,in 2020, within the framework of the Forum, I took part with a report “Analysis of the Functional Capabilities of Bionic Arm Prostheses” in the conference “Electronic, Laser and Biotechnical Engineering”.

What else I would like to tell about our university.

In our university there are many well-equipped classrooms. There is a science park, a modern student television center. For example, our department of BMI of the National University of Radio Electronics, within the framework of a joint Ukrainian-German partnership, received a modern training system for minimally invasive surgery. The system helps to get acquainted with the operation of modern surgical equipment, as well as identify opportunities for its further improvement. The department is equipped with modern diagnostic equipment, such as an ultrasound scanner, a thermal imager, installations for video dermatoscopy, luminescence diagnostics, cardiac monitoring, devices for microscopic research, as well as a unique atomic force microscope. There are also devices for 3D printing and 3D scanning of the human body.

What are  interesting things that you can do after classes ?

In addition to studying, we are very actively involved in various cultural and sports events of KNURE. I became the winner of the KNURE billiards tournament. Students love to play football, basketball, table tennis, for this we have an excellent gym and stadium.

Also, we actively go on trips on order to discover the city of Kharkov, visit various famous places and cultural centers, and get acquainted with the nature of Ukraine.

In conclusion, speaking about our university – Kharkov National University of Radio Electronics – I would like to say the following.

Students from other countries, who come to study at KNURE, have a large number of opportunities and prospects. It has a strong teaching staff, high-quality presentation of material, an extensive theoretical base, and modern equipment. In addition, an active student life, a new language, culture and, of course, international acquaintances. Visiting various conferences and forums gives you the opportunity to try yourself in something new and in a completely new audience.

The University of Radio Electronics actively helps foreigners to quickly adapt and get used to the foundations of Ukrainian life. At the same time, this is a very profitable option for foreign students, tuition and living costs will be much cheaper here than in Europe or the USA. So students will return home with a huge store of knowledge, new impressions, experiences and a large number of new international acquaintances.
